There’s an excellent body of knowledge now of strategic concepts, frameworks and theories, which offers us the chance of a productive, objective and rational discussion of strategy. The problem is, so often the strategic decisions are not taken objectively and rationally. Why? Because the rational, objective discussion is only the small tip of a very large iceberg. The stuff that really matters, that actually makes the decision is going on below the surface. And it is not in any way rational or objective.
